Chief Distribution Officer (CDO)

Job Purpose

The Chief Distribution Officer (CDO) will be responsible for leading and overseeing KBZMS sales and distribution strategy and operations within the general insurance sector. CDO will drive initiatives aimed at expanding market share, innovating distribution channels, and building a sustainable, inclusive sales ecosystem. This role requires a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of the general insurance market, exceptional strategic thinking, and strong leadership and people management skills to effectively guide teams and ensure business growth.

Job Description

  1. Strategic Leadership
    – Design and implement a comprehensive multi-channel distribution strategy that aligns with the company’s growth and inclusion objectives.
    – Lead strategies to increase insurance penetration through innovative approaches and partnerships in underserved and untapped segments.
    – Collaborate with the executive leadership team to set aggressive yet achievable sales targets, ensuring alignment with the company’s mission to be the market leader.
    – Identify and evaluate new distribution opportunities and channels to expand market reach and enhance insurance awareness and inclusion.
  2. Channel Development and Optimization
    – Manage and optimize all distribution channels, including direct sales, agency networks, bancassurance, digital platforms, and corporate partnerships.
    – Identify and integrate alternative and emerging distribution channels to broaden access and improve customer acquisition.
    – Foster and maintain strong relationships with key distribution partners to ensure alignment and maximize channel productivity.
  3. Sales Leadership and Operational Excellence
    – Lead, mentor, and motivate the sales team to achieve and exceed sales targets on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
    – Establish and monitor KPIs across all sales channels, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability.
    – Drive operational efficiencies and optimize cost structures while maximizing sales outcomes.
    – Leverage technology and data analytics to enhance distribution effectiveness, customer experience, and market insights.
    – Foster a high-performance culture within the sales and distribution team, prioritizing customer focus and innovation.
  4. Market Analysis and Development
    – Conduct detailed market research to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics.
    – Develop and execute actionable plans to penetrate new markets and enhance presence in existing ones.
    – Create strategies to enhance customer engagement and satisfaction through innovative distribution methods.
  5. Customer Experience
    – Enhance customer engagement and satisfaction by introducing innovative, accessible, and user-friendly distribution methods.
    – Ensure a seamless and cohesive customer journey across all distribution channels, prioritizing trust and convenience.
    – Continuously gather and act on customer feedback to improve products and distribution processes.
  6. Regulatory Compliance
    – Ensure all distribution activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements and align with internal company policies.
    – Stay updated on industry regulations and proactively adjust strategies to maintain compliance.
    – Promote ethical behavior and integrity across all sales and distribution activities.
  7. Collaboration and Communication
    – Work closely with senior executives, product development, marketing, and operations teams to align distribution strategies with overall business goals.
    – Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure organizational alignment and foster a one-team spirit.
    – Clearly articulate the company’s distribution vision and goals to motivate and align all contributors.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing, Finance, or a related field. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the insurance industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, focusing on sales and distribution strategy.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing high-performing sales teams.
  • Proven experience in senior distribution and sales leadership roles, preferably in general insurance.
  • Demonstrated success in scaling operations, driving growth, and managing diverse distribution channels in low-penetration markets.
  • Strong track record of developing and executing distribution strategies and managing large teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and market expansion in insurance distribution channels.
  • Experience in working with executive leadership teams to align sales and distribution strategies with corporate goals.
  • Extensive experience in developing and executing distribution strategies.
  • Expertise in agency management, bancassurance, and digital sales platforms.
